Maybrook honors its finest

For the first time in what officials say will be an annual event, Maybrook handed out various awards during the May 23 Village Board meeting said Police Arnold “Butch” Amthor, “to recognize exceptional acts” and “honor our officers’ efforts throughout the year”.

Several officers were unable to attend the awards ceremony.  Those that were there received their awards to extended applause by meeting attendees and the Village Board.

While service bars were issued to reflect an officer’s overall years in law enforcement, not all with Maybrook, there were also special awards (see photos) given to:  Officer John Erps, Excellent Police Duty; Officers Matthew Hughes and Arthur Bongiorno, Life Saving Award; Det. William “Chip” Lahar, Meritorious Police Duty; Officer John Erps and Sgt. Michael Maresca, Meritorious Police Duty; and Officers Matthew Hughes and Anthony Galeno, Medal of Valor.

Service bars went to:  Detective Matthew Hughes, 15 years of service; Sgt. Michael Maresca, 15 years; Det. William “Chip” Lahar, 15 years; Officer Mike Reilly, 20 years (in addition to his 20 years with the NYPD); Officer Toomey, 30 years; Officer Frederick, 25 years; and Sgt. Dennis Barnett, 25 years.
