Maybrook VFW rocks with oldies

Maybrook residents and other locals got a treat this past Friday night as 91-year-old Karl Heller spun “oldies,” classic old tunes that made the dance floor packed with people.

The event was hosted by Maybrook VFW Post 2064 and had a great turnout. Heller’s relatives, along with other oldies lovers, gathered to dance, enjoy pizza, enter a 50/50 raffle and mingle. Heller’s daughter, Iris Petrillo, noted having her sixteenth birthday party in the VFW building, which is located at 209 Main Street in Maybrook. Heller put in efforts for the building to be standing today, even being a past commander of the VFW.

Heller is a lifelong resident of Maybrook and has three children, seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

“We grew up always helping him with dances and helping him with dinners,” said Petrillo, who wore a classic Pink Ladies jacket to the event.

Heller also took it to the dance floor himself for some songs, never appearing without a smile on his face.
