Medline signs finally posted for trucks

It’s been a long time in coming, but signs warning Medline drivers to stay away from the Village of Montgomery are finally up, and apparently are working.

“I’ve noticed a huge decrease in Medline trucks through the village,” reports Don Berger of Residents Protecting Montgomery.

The fix, apparently, was quite simple: signs on the Medline property warning drivers not to drive through the village of Montgomery unless they are making a delivery there and not to turn on Route 211 East.

The new Medline warehouse on State Route 416, is located outside the village limits, but truck traffic inside the village has been a concern of Montgomery Village residents since prior to approval by the Town of Montgomery Planning Board in 2020.In April of that year, the town planning board adopted a New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) statement that “the village already experiences considerable truck traffic and some village residents have voiced concern regarding various impacts that occur as a result of that traffic.”

Berger, earlier this year, reminded the village board that the signs were promised more than a year ago. At that meeting, Mayor Steve Brescia warned that the village had no legal recourse to prevent the trucks from coming through town, noting that Route 211 and 17K are state roads. Town of Montgomery Police Chief John Hank reiterated the same position several weeks later at a town board meeting.

It was also noted that Medline trucks making deliveries to the Montgomery Nursing Home are unable to avoid the village. The hope was that smaller vehicles could be used for those.
