The Mid Hudson girls’ team lost their semifinal game at the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Summer Hoops Festival at Johnson City High School on Sunday.
Mid Hudson nearly erased all of Capital Region (Section 2)’s double-digit lead, but Capital hung on to advance to the championship game against Rochester, who won the championship.
They moved on to the third-place game against Buffalo, the result of which was not available at press time.
Mid-Hudson finished the tournament’s second day with a 3-2 mark in pool play to qualify for Sunday’s semifinals.
The clinching win was a 61-55 win over Southern Tier, which saw Pine Bush’s Ketura Rutty lead with 14 points. Wallkill’s Zoe Mesuch and Newburgh Free Academy’s T.T. Burden added nine points each.
Mid Hudson started the first day of the tournament by building a double-digit lead and then holding on for a 68-65 win over Central (Section 3) on Friday at Johnson City High School.
Rutty scored 24 points and Kingston’s Ava Scaturro added 14.
It was the first of three games they played on the first day of the tournament. They moved on to Johnson City Elementary School for two more games, losing the first one, 52-36 to Capital Region (Section 2).
Marlboro’s Gabby Murphy scored 10 points.
They finished the tournament’s first day with a game against Buffalo (Section 6) in the evening, a game they won, 53-50 behind an 18-point performance by Wallkill’s Zoe Mesuch.
