Greetings from River City. To all those who are headed to the next level of their education, weather in academia or in the workforce…As you begin this new step into the unknown of your future, go armed with the shield of good character, good purpose, love of family and friends, faith in God and in goodness, generosity of spirit, joy, and courage. Never demean the honest work you do. Never let yourself down. God be with you! Excelsior!

Outdoor Movies Are Back On Safe Harbors Green! On Thursday, June 27 at 8:30 p.m. watch “Elemental.” Set in Element City, where Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air-residents live together, “Elemental” introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.

Screenings begin at dusk, with pre-movie events and a cookout hosted by the City of Newburgh Police Department starting at 7:30 p.m. Presented in partnership with the City of Newburgh.

Washington’s Headquarters celebrates July 4th with “WHAT DOESN’T BELONG” Tour. Most people know July 4th as the birthday of the United States. Fewer might know that it is also the birthday of Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site.

The Hasbrouck family’s farmhouse that served as headquarters for General George Washington during the end of the Revolutionary War was opened to the public on July 4, 1850, as the first publicly owned historic site in the country.

To celebrate the site’s 174th birthday, join the Headquarters staff for a fun tour of spotting what doesn’t belong in General Washington’s 1782 headquarters. You have seen the muskets and the tricorn hats, but can you find items from a different era that hadn’t been invented yet when the General was headquartered in Newburgh?

The fun does not stop there! Children and those young at heart are invited to make and decorate pinwheels and watch their creations flutter in the breezes of the nearby Hudson River.

Tours of Hasbrouck House are given throughout the day. Reservations are not required but space is limited. The site, including the museum and tour, is open on July 4 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Standard admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and children aged 12 years old or younger are admitted without charge. For additional information, please call the site at (845) 562-1195.

Prayer request from Susan Short who will be undergoing eye surgery on both eyes. Sooz is a wonderfully creative, generous soul. She and the family would be most grateful for your gift of prayer.

The Bereavement Support Group facilitators, Beverly Austin, Raymond Leduc, Elaine DeCrosta, and Linda Dewitt, “want to express their appreciation to the Adult Faith Formation and Activities of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish and St. Patrick’s, St. Mary’s and Our Lady of the Lake Parish for everything that was done to make our recent eight-week bereavement support sessions in the Chapel of Sacred Heart Church a success.

“We especially wish to thank Father Joseph Tyrrell and Deacon Thomas Neppl for giving of their time and sharing their spiritual comments at several of the sessions. Thanks again to everyone! We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Living takes strength; doing it well takes courage. As always, I close with my prayers for God’s blessings on your heads, my dears.
