Newburgh boys 4th at Goshen meet

Newburgh Free Academy’s 4x400-meter relay turned in the team’s top finish at Saturday’s Goshen Coliseum Classic with a fourth-place finish.

IT was the best of four relays the Goldbacks put in the event. The top team finished fourth in 3:34.87 with another finishing ninth with a time of 3:57.89. The Goldbacks’ also placed teams 10th and 11th.

Sam Okeyo finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 32-6.5.

The 4x100-meter relay was sixth with a time of 46.07 and the second team was ninth in 48.45.

Xavier Williams led four Goldbacks in the top 10 with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:01.25. Anthony Burnett was right behind with a 1:02.06 for sixth place.

Anthony Barrett was ninth and David Pinnock was 10th.

Anthony Burnett was sixth in the high jump reaching 5-4 with Jun Rivas finishing 10th clearing 5-2. Anthony Barrett and Devin Batelic both reached under five feet for 19th and 23rd place finishes.

The Goldbacks put 10 runners in the 200-meter dash with Sam Montes posting their best finish with a time of 24.44 seconds. Eric Duncan was 15th with a time of 24.64. Charles Corbin was 23rd and Elijah Bevier was 27th and Rivas was 30th. Steven Thompson, Josiah Stables, Dejuan Mckenzie, and Bryce Buxton were 50th, 53rd, 54th and 68th respectively.

Joseph Gaito was 17th in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 11:45.71 and Sebastian Bargarelli was 28th in 12:09.47.

Charles Corbin was 20th in the long jump reaching 16-7 and Buxton was 21st with a 16-6. Mckenzie was 37th.

The girls’ team did not compete.
