Newburgh Free Academy Air Force Junior ROTC held its award ceremony, June 5, at NFA Main Campus. Several cadets were recognized for their individual accomplishments, as well as national group achievements.
Among the recipients was an award presented by Catholic War Veterans Joseph R. Farina Memorial Post 386, Newburgh-New Windsor. The recipient displayed assets during the entire 2023-2024 academic year that parallel the motto of the CWV, “FOR GOD…FOR COUNTRY…F0R H0ME.” According to Master Sergeant Christian Granda, (USAF Ret.), the group’s Administrator and Instructor, Cadet Lt. Col. Catherine Joyasaca was, without a doubt, the most fitting cadet to receive this award. The CWV Award consists of a Gold Medal, certificate and a scholarship.
Similarly, Town of Newburgh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1160, presented its award to Cadet Maj. Caroline Campos. Their VFW Award also consists of a medal, certificate and scholarship.
A very unique camaraderie exists between the CWV Post 386 and the VFW Post 1160, in that most of the VFW post are also members of the CWV Post. This also holds true for the American Legion, Marine Corps, Reserve, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans and Fleet Reserve.
Another presentation was made by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Post 1782. This award consists of a medal, certificate and a ribbon. The recipient of this award was Cadet 2nd Lt. Davida Chacon.
Town of Newburgh Rec. Dept.-Chadwick Lake Park promises to “Rock” with its wonderful Summer Concert Series and it’s FREE!! Best wishes to Filomena and Lorenzo Buda who celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary at the 10 a.m. Mass in Sacred Heart Church, celebrant was Msgr. Peter. Traditional Italian songs were reverently sung with joy, and a very beautiful “Ave Maria,” was sung by Rick Santacroce, after Communion that touched the hearts of everyone. May this special day be blessed with wonderful memories for Filomena and Lorenzo and filled with continued sweet dreams for their future.
