He was also the Goldbacks’ top qualifier for this week’s Section 9 championships, also set for Match Point.

He was the Goldbacks’ only singles competitor to reach the sections. They also qualified two doubles teams. The teams of Michael Deyo and Henry Goings-Perrot and Emilien Boyer and Chase Rounds also will reach the sectional tournament by reaching the quarterfinals.

Agyeman went on to finish second. Cornwall’s Gurv Suri went on to win the championship.

Shah beat Monroe-Woodbury’s T.J. Mancuso, 7-6. 6-4, in the consolation match to take third place.
Shah advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kingston’s Jonathan Kuster.

Deyo and Goings-Perrot were eliminated from championship contention when they lost to Middletown’s Jaden Jones and James Cangialosi. Rounds and Boyer were eliminated in the quarterfinals by a 6-0. 6-2 loss to Cornwall’s Ryan Geller and Cyrus Yarpezeshkan.

Deyo and Goings-Perrot won the first-round match, Monroe-Woodbury’s Mahil Joarder and Allen Yi. Boyer and Rounds beat Beacon’s Alex Wyant and Matthew Sandiston, 6-2, 7-5.

Newburgh’s Theo Pollic and Robert Rios were eliminated in the play-in round by Valley Central’s John Severson and Connor Wolfrum.
