The New Windsor Town Board discussed the recent announcements of Governor Kathy Hochul in order to address the housing crisis in New York State during their regular work session on Monday, January 30.
According to the Governor’s Press Office website, the governor announced on January 10 a plan to address the crisis by building 800,000 new homes in the state over the course of the next decade and to assist renters and homeowners during this period. Additional strategies are outlined in a formal plan known as the The New York Housing Compact which calls on all levels of government to assist in this ongoing crisis.

Addressing the housing crisis, Town Supervisor George Meyers shared his concerns on the crisis and what actions he has taken to address the concern. “We [New Windsor] are at our limit here as far as I’m concerned but I did call Senator [James] Skoufis and say, “Listen, we could use some housing but it’s senior citizen housing,” said Meyers.
