At a brief meeting July 23, the Pine Bush school board appointed Terrilyn Cohn as interim Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. She replaces Amy Brockner who was recently appointed interim Superintendent of Schools.
Cohn has been the district’s Director of Special Programs for seven years. The board appointed Erica Walentin as interim Director of Special Programs; she has been the Assistant Director of Special Programs.
Joseph Lenz, Assistant Superintendent for Business, reported that a majority of bus runs for the 2024-25 school year are completed. He said the district will distribute information on bus runs by the middle of August as usual.
The board recognized and congratulated a number of new hires. Brockner said that the district still has a few openings to fill.
During the public comment segment, Pat Ogden discussed New York State’s criteria for graduation, and boys playing on girls sports teams.
Ogden said the state’s criteria for graduation, while including such subjects as being a Good Global Citizen, left out core subjects. Brockner said the state hasn’t yet offered specifics but she is sure that competency in such subjects will be included.
In regard to boys playing on girls teams, Ogden said she was concerned about such matters as the physicality of biological boys, and college scholarships. Brockner said that Jen Evans, the district’s athletic director, and the board had written letters expressing similar concerns.
The board will next meet on August 12.
