Gil Piaquadio of the Town of Newburgh will seek re-election as town supervisor in the upcoming 2023 election season. According to his town biography, Piaquadio joined the town council in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. In 2012, Piaquadio was appointed as the Deputy Supervisor for the town. Previous Town Supervisor Wayne Booth vacated the position in March 2014 and Piaquadio assumed the role of supervisor. In 2015, Piaquadio was elected by residents to a two-year term and has been elected since then with the most recent election in 2021. Piaquadio has been a town resident for over 35 years and has raised his four children here in the Newburgh area.

In his announcement, Piaquadio thanked his current town board and the town employees for their many accomplishments which include the purchase of the Desmond Estate through a Kaplan Foundation grant. In addition to the estate, the classes and programs offered for senior residents will continue on.

Additional accomplishments of the town included the new Code Compliance and Animal Control office building at 21 Hudson Plaza, the acquisition of the Anchorage for future usage, and more recently, the Resorts World Hudson Valley casino location at the Newburgh Mall.

Piaquadio also emphasized via his announcement that the town has not seen an increase in property taxes for the past several years, more municipal services have been added and residents should look forward to the proposed Recreation/Senior Center at Chadwick Lake. This 35,000 square foot center will be financed, according to Piaquadio, without using property taxpayer funds.

At the time of this report, no additional candidates have made any announcements for the supervisor position. In addition to the supervisor position up for re-election, Councilmembers Anthony LoBiondo and Scott Manley are also up for re-election this coming November.
