Resorts World aims for fall opening at Newburgh Mall

Posted

Construction work and renovations continue at the Newburgh Mall in preparation for the highly anticipated Resorts World Hudson Valley casino set to open in the fall of 2022.

The Newburgh Mall was chosen as the new home for a Resorts World facility due to its current location which has Interstate 84 and the New York State Thruway running parallel to the site. Meghan Taylor, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Relations for Resorts World shared that the current infrastructure of the building was able to help Resorts World construct and renovate without starting from the ground up.

Taylor shared that the anticipated hope now is to have the facility completed this coming fall.

“There’s going to be an entirely different look and feel to this mall,” Taylor said. Taylor, along with Anthony Bruno, who will serve as Vice President of Operations for Resorts World Hudson Valley, provided a tour of the current facility.

According to Taylor and Bruno, about 90,000 square feet make up the current footprint of the casino. There was no immediate consideration for additional expansion of the company footprint into the rest of the mall. There will be two entrances to the casino. One will be located facing the front parking lot along Route 300 and the other will be within the mall with turnstyles inside. Taylor and Bruno anticipate that the facility will bring in about two million visitors each year of operation.

“We’ll have about, just under 1,200 machines on the floor. A mix of slot machines and electronic table games,” Taylor said. “We will not have food options. We will not have a full-blown restaurant in here and the idea for that was to really help with the revitalization and redevelopment of the mall in general. We’re anticipating significant traffic coming into this facility on a daily and yearly basis.”

In the middle of the floor, there will be a signature 360 bar top with featured artwork from the Hudson Valley that highlights the area. Additional game rooms with high stakes games, drink stations and Resorts World member services will also be included in the facility.

Resorts World will also focus on local hiring from Newburgh and the surrounding area for their facility. Taylor and Bruno anticipate 300 brand new jobs for the facility and average salaries for employees is about $72,000 with additional benefits according to Taylor.
