Vikings, Panthers lose
Julian Montrevil ran for 100 yards and Luke Watson ran for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Valley Central Vikings’ 27-13 loss to the Middletown Middies in a Class AA football game on Friday at Faller Field at Middletown High School.
Denzel St. John made three tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Keirnan Bresnick made seven tackles and Logan McKenna made five tackles, one for a loss.
Warwick 34, Wallkill 15
Wallkill’s Kent Glasgow ran for two touchdowns in the Panthers’ Class A crossover loss to the Warwick Wildcats on Friday.
Panthers sweep Rhinebeck in volleyball
Ava O’Flaherty had 15 kills and five digs, leading the Wallkill Panthers to a 3-0 win over the Rhinebeck Hawks on Oct. 15 in a Mid Hudson Athletic League volleyball match.
The Panthers won the match, 25-16, 25-17, 25-22.
Kimmy Merrill had 25 assists, 12 digs and three aces, while Gianna Allessandro had eight kills, seven digs and two aces. Sophia Crinieri had two assists and 10 digs.
The Panthers improved to 7-5.
Panthers blanked in tennis
The Wallkill Panthers were beaten by the Warwick Wildcats on Friday in the Section 9 Division I girls’ team tennis championship, 7-0, at Monticello High School.
Arianna Jorge Martinez lost 6-1, 6-2 to Grace Cornelius and Anna O’Brien lost 6-0, 6-2 to Bianka Grzesik. Katelyn Krupp lost, 6-1, 6-0to Piper Stewen.
Amy O’Malley and Elizabeth Fragetta were blanked in straight sets by Leah Scaolo and Keri Leahey, as were Leah Petrocitto and Miranda Padilla, who lost to Celia Greco and Annika Brezina.
Vanity Nieves Cook and Adrienne Silvestris lost 8-0 to Nina Cirillo and Rosalie Mountford, while Xiorah Herrerra and Caitlin Dougherty lost 8-0 to Gisela Gujar and Abby Kadus.
Martinez qualifies for Section 9 tournament
Wallkill’s Arianna Jorge Martinez qualified for the Section 9 girls’ tennis tournament when she reached the quarterfinals of the Mid Hudson Athletic League tournament on Oct. 15 at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Staatsburg.
Her tournament run ended with a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Our Lady of Lourdes’ Tiffany Ren in the quarterfinals.
She entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed, opening the tournament with a win over No. 9 Quadira Scheidelman of Spackenkill, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Wallkill’s Anna O’Brien entered as the No. 14 seed and was eliminated by a 6-1, 6-0 win by No. 3 Margo Ogden-Kosofsky of New Paltz.
Wallkill’s ninth-seeded doubles team of Amy O’Malley and Ellie Fragetta were eliminated in the first round by No. 8 Janice Werba and Jordana Scrivani of Marlboro, 6-4, 6-0.
