Strongroom proposes new installation for Dutch Church

Posted

Newburgh City Council approved a resolution for the authorization of the city manager to enter into a license agreement with Strongroom that allows usage and access to the Dutch Reformed Church [DRC], located at 134 Grand Street, for an artwork display titled “Force Fields”.

The approved art installation at the DRC will feature a light and sound installation by local Newburgh artist Liz Nielsen that will be displayed on the exterior of the building. Nielsen is a contemporary artist who works in light and photo. The installation will feature installed laser lights at the top of the DRC facing down. The beams will wrap on the side of the building facing Grand Street and the front. The installation will also feature the subtle sound of a faint heartbeat playing.

Strongroom, founded by Newburgh resident Kelly Schroer, is a non for profit organization based in Newburgh. Projects of Strongroom include the most recent usage of the former City Club building used for an outdoor project titled Martin Roth that offered residents to enter and listen to a musical performance created by the vegetation growing within the building.

No public access to the installation will be allowed. Only permitted personnel are allowed on the site when working on the installation. The city council requested from the Planning and Development office hours of playing for the audio and asked for the possibility of extending the license agreement for possible usage during the holiday season.
