Third Street properties go to Habitat for Humanity

Posted

Newburgh City Council approved on Monday, January 23 the sale of the properties 221 and 229 Third Street to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh Inc.

Alexandra Church, Director of Planning and Development for the city, presented the resolution to the city council on Thursday, January 19. Three properties on Third Street, according to Church, were acquired by the Newburgh Land Bank and the city has been maintaining the two properties. “All five (properties) will be homeownership projects,” said Church.

“That is such great news,” said Councilman Anthony Grice. “Every single house on that street will be occupied, some of it rentals, some of it homeownerships.”

“I’m very excited about it because it’s in my ward,” said Councilwoman Patty Sofokles. “I can’t wait to see this part done too.”
