“No work is insignificant.
All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity
and importance and should be undertaken
with painstaking excellence.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Town of Newburgh Recreation Department cheerfully celebrated a memory-making “Happy Grandparent’s Day,” and it was a super, smashing success for our town residents coming together at Chadwick Lake Park.
As summer winds down, it was a perfect cool day to enjoy our time outdoors, as Labor Day and school bells are ringing. It was a full house of energizing activities for all of us, and the kids loved the bounce house, a zoo, arts and crafts, and Baggo (an Italian version of toss the beanbag) and great music. There were Food Trucks for a variety of treats, Mean Dogs, and the most popular Chilly Willy’s Ice Cream, that had refreshing sweet smiles on every age.
I believe young and old were truly draped in a shawl of LOVE with cherished memories!

For our seniors, there will be a Legacy Writing Workshop held at the Town Branch Library, 181 South Plank Rd. This is a creative writing class for seniors to remember, share, and write about their life experiences.
Seniors have interesting stories about life, love and everything in between. In this workshop they will be guided to write about stories of their life, and experience their story transformed, into a story they can share with their adult children and grandchildren.
Each session begins with a freewriting exercise followed by instructions, for building the elements of a story. There will be an opportunity in each session to share stories written by participants. This workshop promises a fun and supportive environment for seniors to remember together.
This class will be held weekly* on Tuesdays, from 1-3 p.m. beginning September 9 through October 21. (Sept. 9, 16, 23; Oct. 7, 14, 21.) *Note that no session will be held on September 30. Please register once to attend all sessions. Registration is required as 12 seats are available. Call 845-245-4750.
