Valley Central’s doubles team of Henri Pothier and Dan Zindani finished second at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association boys’ tennis championships on Friday at Match Point Tennis Center in Goshen.

Their second-place finish also qualified them for this week’s Section 9 championships, also at Match Point.

Pothier and Zindani lost, 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match to Cornwall’s Ryan Geller and Cyrus Yarpezeshkan.

They beat Washingtonville’s Brandon Retchko and Joey Calandra in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Pothier and Zindani blanked Minisink Valley’s Ethan Rodriguez and Ahmad Hassan, 6-0, 6-0.

The Vikings’ second doubles team in the tournament – John Severson and Connor Wolfrum got as far as the first round, where they were beaten by Geller and Yarpezeshkan, 6-1, 6-1. They won their play-in match over Newburgh’s Theo Pollick and Robert Rios, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-6).

The Vikings didn’t enter any singles competitors into the tournament.
