Viking girls dominate Monroe

The Valley Central girls’ lacrosse team got back on track Wednesday afternoon, as they rebounded from a loss to the Kingston Tigers with a dominating 17-3 victory over the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders.

The Vikings jumped on the Crusaders early, scoring their first two goals in the game’s first minute.

The Vikings scored a total of 11 goals in the first half, starting the running clock with 6:45 still remaining in the first.

Sophomore Rebecca Sibley led the Vikings’ offense with five goals and Mac Delmonico added three goals and two assists, also for five total points.

Kiera McPhillips scored three goals and registered one assist. Lorena Rivera and Melanie Grismer each had two goals and one assist. Gabriella Morelli had a goal and two assists, and Briana McPhillips had a goal and an assist.

Madison Roszkowski got the start in goal and made five saves. Evelyn Livingston relieved her in goal in the second half when the game was out of reach and made one save.

The Crusaders didn’t get on the board until the second half, getting a goal each from someone different. Colleen Gilligan, Teresa Jacoby and Diane Lange, each had a goal for the Crusaders.

Victoria Gloria mad two saves in the goal and Ayaan Ahmed made one.

After starting the season 2-0 with wins over James I. O’Neill and Saugerties, the Vikings faced a humbling 19-5 loss on April 4 to the Kingston Tigers at home.

Arianna Burns scored six goals, overcoming the entire Valley Central output. Norah Prizzi added four goals and Donatella DeCicco added three goals.

Kiera McPhillips led the Vikings with three goals.

Roszkowski made 15 saves.

The Vikings finished the week on Saturday with a 20-8 win over the Beacon Bulldogs.
