Vision of Wallkill organizes spring art events

The Art Along the Sidewalk project offered by Vision of Wallkill is under way to show support for the brave men and women in our local fire and ambulance departments. Artwork needs to be submitted by June 7. Judging will happen on June 9 and winners will be notified after June 11. VOW will offer two top prizes of a $25 Amazon gift card - one for elementary students and another for upper grade students. Artwork will decorate the hamlet in time for the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association Parade.

If you are an art and photography enthusiast, come and participate in the Plein Air art event at Lippincott Manor on Saturday, July 9. From 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., you will be surrounded with the captivating views of the Shawangunk Mountains, the Wallkill River and the property’s gardens. You can choose whatever subject inspires you and capture it with your easel or camera. Participating artists agree to donate at least one of their art pieces to VOW for a Silent Auction to be held on Saturday, September 24 during the annual Weekend of Wallkill. For more information or questions about the Plein Air event, contact Adrienne at 845-895-8712 or email dramapearl@yahoo.com.

Wallkill is enlivened through these artistic collectives and moreover, through its cooperative spirit. The Wallkill Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry appreciates all the generous donations they receive from their neighbors each month. The community’s assistance helps to fill the gaps in basic supplies for more than 300 families. The pantry endeavors to consider dietary and personal preferences of those they help, so they request these items that are currently in short supply:
• canned items including tuna fish, corn, pears and peaches
• low-salt and original flavored crackers (preferably Ritz, Triscuits, Wheat Thins or store brand)

• pasta (any type)
• all men’s hygiene items (deodorant, shaving supplies, combs, etc.)
• bar soaps
• mouthwash
If you would like to know more how you can uplift the community, consider joining Vision of Wallkill and come to our next meeting on Thursday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shawangunk Town Hall. For more information on these and other upcoming events, check VOW’s Facebook page or call/text 845-527-6230.
