Walden FD responds to garage fire

Posted
November 15, - At 9:22 p.m. the Walden, Coldenham, and Montgomery Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported garage fire at 46 Grant St. in the Village of Walden.
At 9:24 the first fire department unit arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in a large manufacturing facility which had been converted into a unique storage facility at 3 Elm St. With fire through the roof of the facility on arrival a second alarm was transmitted to bring additional firefighters and equipment from the City of Newburgh, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Wallkill, and Washingtonville Fire Departments.
Firefighters entered the building to find fire in the cockloft of one of the many additions put onto the original 1800’s manufacturing facility and quickly extinguished the majority of the fire. Firefighters on the roof opened additional large areas to expose and extinguish more fire.
At 10:04 the fire was placed under control. An investigation led by Orange County Division of Fire Services Investigators determined the fire had started in an area of the roof where workers were previously performing hot work roof repairs.
In addition to the 80 firefighters on scene, the Walden Fire Department was provided assistance by the Village of Walden Police and Building Departments, Town of Montgomery EMS, and New York State Electric and Gas. The Orange Lake and Washingtonville Fire Departments provided coverage for the fire departments who operated on scene.
