The Wallkill Central School District will hold on March 22, 2023, a Special Board meeting to approve various bids with an additional discussion on the proposed 2023-2024 district budget. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Wallkill Senior High School Library.

During the board’s regular meeting on Wednesday, February 15, Wallkill Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Brian Devincenzi provided to the Wallkill Board of Education a report on the budget process and additional financial related initiatives. During his reporting period, Devincenzi made the board aware that elementary class sizes are projected to be 20 students and that the district had adjusted the roll-over budget as seven district retirements had occurred. The district has received preliminary State Aid figures based on Governor Kathy Hochul’s budgets and are awaiting finalization. The numbers should be available by the end of March, with the anticipated on-time budget.

Devincenzi and his office will also be looking to address health insurance and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) finances and the district plans to submit a tax levy within the cap which the district has been at or below every year by March 1. Wallkill Superintendent Kevin Castle followed Devincenzi’s report with reporting to the board that final State Aid numbers should be available by April 1 and district programs look to be maintained going forward into the budget preparation season.
