The summer baseball and softball seasons got under way last week.

Leading the way were the Marlboro Marlins 12U baseball team, which won its first two games. They opened their Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League season with a 14-2 win over the Orange County Bombers on June 14.

They opened the season on their home field at Young’s Park in Marlboro on Friday, beating the Black Dirt Barnstormers, 10-2.

The 10U Marlins had an uneven start to their season, winning their first game before suffering a 20-1 loss to the Hudson Valley Hawks on Friday.

The 13U Marlboro Wildcats won their first three games of the GHVBL season before suffering a loss to the Brewster Crush Orange on Saturday.

The 15U Expos battled the Naturals to a 12-12 tie on Saturday afternoon.

Three area Babe Ruth Softball all-star divisions began play last week as well.

In the 8U division, Highland posted wins over both Marlboro and Kingston early in the week.

In the 10U division, Highland suffered three straight losses to Kingston, Marlboro, East Fishkill and Kingston. Marlboro beat Highland, 15-9.
