Bushmen struggle in loss to Highland

The struggles continued on Wednesday for the Pine Bush boys’ lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bushmen gave up a tying goal at the end of the first quarter and went on to suffer an 11-6 non-league loss to the Highland Huskies at Pine Bush Elementary School.

The Bushmen held their only lead as time ran out on the first quarter, but Highland’s A.J. Palmer’s goal at the buzzer tied the game at 2-2, heading into the second quarter.

Palmer followed with a goal to give the Huskies the lead and then Osei Adoma added two more in the quarter to give the Huskies’ a three-goal lead, one they would never relinquish.

The Bushmen eventually cut the lead to two goals at halftime on a goal by Colin Carey and then pulled to within 5-4 on a goal by Danny DeGroodt.

Bu the Huskies answered with three more goals in the third quarter and another in the fourth to cruise to victory.

Pine Bush’s Alec Gorman scored three goals and Terrence Coleman had a goal and an assist. Joseph Darrell and Dion Cauthen added an assist each.

Tyler Ostrom made 10 saves.

A.J. Palmer led the Huskies with five goals and Dean Klotz added three goals and four assists. Klotz’s goal with 7:50 remaining in the third quarter was the 100th of his career. Logan Zehr also had a goal and Aden Wiser had an assist.

Landon Zehr made 11 saves.

The Bushmen finished the week on Saturday with a 16-2 road loss to the Rondout Valley Ganders.
