Caden Dana’s dream of making it to the Major Leagues is about to come true.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels announced that Dana would be promoted from the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas to the big leagues this weekend.
Dana, a right-handed starting pitcher, will make his MLB debut on Sunday at Angel Stadium in a start against the Seattle Mariners.
The Montgomery native was selected in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Don Bosco Preparatory High School.
So far this season, he spent the entire year with the Trash Pandas in Madison, Alabama. Dana has posted a 9-7 record with a 2.52 ERA over 135 2-3 innings pitched. In 23 starts, he has 147 strikeouts and 39 walks. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last five starts.
In July, Dana was selected to represent the Angels in the MLB Futures Game, part of MLB’s All-Star festivities in Arlington, Texas.
Dana’s promotion comes as MLB’s rosters expand from 26 players to 28 players on Sept. 1. Currently the 22-year-old is not on the Angels’ 40-man roster, which will require the club to make a corresponding move to make room.
Sunday’s game is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET, and can only be viewed locally through the MLB.TV streaming platform.
