Clark Place to get speed bump

Posted

Borrowing a traffic count/speed device from Montgomery, Maybrook Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor reported that suspected traffic speed problems on Clark Place are indeed serious. The roadway in the village has a posted speed of 25 miles per hour (mph). The recording device showed more than 40 percent of vehicles traveling at 40 mph or more on the road. One vehicle’s speed was recorded at an “astonishing” 78 mph.

Trustee Daryl Capozzoli noted there are several school bus stops on Clark Place and he fears for the children’s safety.

The Village Board unanimously supported installation of a speed bump on the road, but is first investigating cost and specifications before having the village Public Works Dept. install it.

“We now have proof of the problem there,” Mayor Dennis Leahy said, “and we are being proactive.”
