Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s raises money at head shaving event

Walden’s Firehouse became a barber shop last Saturday as Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s held their sixteenth annual head-shaving event.

At the event, volunteers got their heads shaved and asked for sponsors online. Co-Volunteer Event Organizer at Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s, Kristie Hall, gave an example.

“My niece was just going to shave the underneath of her head. Then she said, “If I get 300 or more dollars I’ll shave my whole head.” So, she did that,” said Hall.

She also mentioned they had around 46 shavees who participated.

The event began in 2008 in memory of Megan Dunn, who passed away at seven with Leukemia. The organization currently has eight honored children, three of whom who have become angels.

The total between the event and online donations came to $63,211, which is $20,000 over their goal. There was $13,596 in check and cash donations the day of the event alone.

All proceeds go toward childhood cancer research.
The event had music by DJ E-Rock and refreshments provided by Team Union House.

To date, the Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s has raised over $630,000. The head shaving event is included in this, alongside other events such as a 6k walk, music fundraiser and a t-shirt fundraiser.

The link to donate, hv-sb.com, will be available for several months.
