James H. Heddricks Sr. of Montgomery, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Garnet Health Center. He was 86.

The son of the late James and Katherine Heddricks, James “Jim” was born on June 7, 1935 in Newburgh, NY. Jim met the love of his life, Margaret, while roller skating at the Avalon in Newburgh. They soon married and spent 64 wonderful years together filled with laughter and fun times.

Jim was an avid camper in his younger years, spending much time with good friends, Harry and Margaret Davis. He also enjoyed going to the casino. His favorite place was Atlantic City and he made sure he told everyone at every other casino how, “This casino is ok, but nothing like AC”. Jim loved fishing and hunting with his son and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his garden, birdhouses, and feeding the birds. Jim loved all animals but was in constant battle with the squirrels and chipmunks, often trapping them in Havahart traps and setting them free down the road, where they no doubt made their way back to his house to start the process all over again. Jim enjoyed meeting people and could strike up a conversation with anyone and joke with them as if they were longtime friends. He enjoyed being with his friends and family and, with his amusing banter, was the life of every family gathering.

Jim served eight years in the Army National Guard. He was employed at the West Point Laundry where he was supervisor and in later years he worked as a supervisor in the West Point barracks until he retired in 1990.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Heddricks, one son James Heddricks Jr. and wife Victoria, two granddaughters, Kristen Frederick and her husband Jesse, and Jessica Heddricks, two great grandchildren, Hope and Jesse Frederick, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Capozzi.
