Jeanne Frances (DeNault) Behr, 89, a lifelong resident of Orange County, died at her son’s home in Oxford, NY surrounded by her family after a brief illness on January 15, 2023.  She was a beloved daughter born September 7, 1933 to the late Arthur and Margaret (Mooney) DeNault.  She lived most of her life in the Town of Montgomery, New York graduating from Walden High School in 1952. She was a retired telephone operator for Highland/Frontier Telephone Company and a homemaker. 

She was a member of the Holy Name of Mary-Assumption Parish Church in Montgomery, NY and Alcoholics Anonymous Stairway to Sobriety Group, Montgomery, NY. Jeanne was very proud of her 37 years of sobriety helping many others along with their journey.  Jeanne was known for her keen sense of humor, her infectious laugh, watching classic movies, and enjoyed being with her family and friends.

Jeanne was the widow of Frank Behr and was predeceased by her son, Brian G. Behr. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick DeNault, Phyllis DeNault Gallagher, Robert DeNault and Doris DeNault Betterton. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Michael J. Behr, Jr. and her dear friend and later life companion, Fred Howard.  

Jeanne is survived by her son, Michael J. Behr, Sr. (Donna) of Oxford, NY and her daughter, Patricia A. Behr (Lunden) of NewburghY. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Crystal Behr of Oxford, NY, Chelsey Behr(Jeffrey Tracy) of Oxford, Bethany (Lunden) Faso (Anthony) of Walden,  and a grandson, John Lunden of Newburgh, NY. She is survived by her dear niece, Tracy Betterton of Wallkill, and by her three great grandchildren, Madison Behr, Owen Behr and Joseph Tracy, Jr. of, and her great-great granddaughter, Addison Behr. 

Visitation will be at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery, on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.  A Mass celebrating her life will be held at Holy Name of Mary-Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 89 Union Street, Montgomery, on Friday at 3 p.m.

Following cremation, interment will be at St. Mary’s cemetery at the convenience of the family. All arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors, 22 Bank Street, Walden. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Name of Mary-Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 89 Union Street, Montgomery; or the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County,6 Waverly Court, Suite 1, Middletown, NY 10941;  or Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 33-39 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
