Main Street in Pine Bush is a little bit cleaner

Last Sunday was the Pine Bush Chamber of Commerce’s annual Main Street clean up in Pine Bush, and volunteers got to feel the sun as they swept, raked and shoveled parts of Main Street.

Main Street Clean Up is an annual event in accordance with the yearly Memorial Day parade. The Pine Bush Chamber of Commerce, led by Vice President and Chair of Events Committee for the chamber Ellen Quimby, got volunteers together to clean the sides of Main Street in the early morning. They also hired East Coast Industrial Services (ECIS) to finish the job with a street sweeper. This year Jay and his son Neil Presutti were there on behalf of ECIS. Basically, volunteers sweep or rake everything onto the streets for the street sweeper to then pick up.

Quimby mentioned that the street gets cleaned just in time for their annual parade for Memorial Day.

“I love seeing our Main Street shine,” said Quimby. “The street looks really nice for the parade. It’s a big part of why we do it.”

The chamber started running the event in 2005-6, but prior to that, local realtor RJ Smith ran it for years.

Though they had a smaller crowd this year, Quimby noted that this was due to a later start. Typically, they plan it two months in advance.

Volunteers this year included Pine Bush Chamber board members Matt Flanagan and Nicole Larsen, Longstreet Tavern Owners and Chamber Members Josie and Ron Longstreet, and Realtor and Chamber Member Denise Clancy.

The Community Garden Club also took part, planting flowers for them along Main Street.
