Middletown’s Ashley MacCalla continued her dominance over the Corinne Feller Tournament.
The Middletown High School sophomore scored a game-high 20 points on Friday night, leading the Middie Bears to a 61-25 win over the Valley Central Vikings on Friday, winning their fourth straight tournament championship at Valley Central High School in Montgomery.
She also won her fourth straight tournament MVP.
“She’s tough,” Valley Central coach Bill Michella said. “That’s why she’s in the top 50. In the first half, my girls played her really tough. In the first half we ended up getting Ashley out of the game. She is the ultimate competitor, and my girls stuck with her.”
Her older sister, Sydney MacCalla scored 14 points and was named to the all-tournament team.
Kelly Schmidt was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Vikings with 14 points, knocking down four 3-point baskets.
“She’s a good floor general, too,” Michella said. “She’s tough. People don’t get around her. When she has that ball, she’s in control and she made some nice passes, especially in the first quarter. She sees the floor well, and when she’s hot, she’s tough.”
Giselle Johnson was named to the all-tournament team after dropping 23 on the Washingtonville Wizards in a 60-39 victory on Wednesday.
Her shot was a little off on (Friday), and that happens sometimes,’ Michella said. “But shooters shoot and I’m sure she’s going to have a lot of big games this year. This just wasn’t one.”
Jenna O’Connor grabbed a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kelly Schmidt added 10 points.
Seventh grader Bella Rivera scored her first four varsity points. Hannah Garcia Curet scored her first six points and Stephanie Williamson added her first two.
Carly Graham led the Wizards with 13 points and Camryn Ardovino added 12.
The Middie Bears beat John S. Burke Catholic in the other semifinal.

This year’s tournament was the 25th annual tournament and before the championship game, tournament director and Corinne Feller’s father, Ron Feller, honored 25-year sponsors: Marc Devitt, Former Montgomery Mayor and Orange County Legislator L. Stephen Brescia, Copperfield’s owner Danny Purcell and Mitchel Eichner of Gene Madley.
Proceeds from the tournament go to a scholarship to help Valley Central students to attend college.
“It just means the world to us to be able to remember Corinne,” Michella said. “She may not be here physically, but she’s in our hearts and she’s still contributing by giving scholarships every year to students in-need at VC.”
