Montgomery All Stars advance in state tournament

The Montgomery Minors softball team was one of four remaining teams in New York State when they advanced to the state semifinals on Sunday with a 13-10 win over Fredonia, the second seed from Pool A, at Brighton Little League near Rochester.
Montgomery went 1-2 through pool play to take the third seed in Pool B.

Montgomery moved on to a rematch with North Bellmore-North Merrick on Monday afternoon. The winner moved on to play in the championship game later that day.
Montgomery won one of its three pool play games to finish the third seed out of Pool A, heading into Sunday and Monday’s bracket-play tournament.

Montgomery’s 2-1 win over Central Square on Wednesday, which went 0-3 in Pool Play helped ensure the team wouldn’t have to play a first-round game in the bracket tournament, sending them straight to the quarterfinals.

However, things got tough for Montgomery starting on Thursday when Montgomery suffered an 11-1 loss to Staten Island-based South Shore.

Then, after an off day, Montgomery squared off with North Bellmore-North Merrick, out of Nassau County, Long Island.

Bellmore-Merrick got on the board fourth, but Montgomery fought back to tie the game in the fourth inning. However, Bellmore-Merrick capitalized on several Montgomery fielding errors to take the victory and win Pool A.
