Panthers top New Paltz, 4-2

Chase Hermance struck out nine batters in six innings to lead the Wallkill baseball team to a 4-2 win over New Paltz on Friday.

Kyle DeGroat got the save with a scoreless seventh. Chris Wager singled and drove in two runs, while Niko Mandich and Spencer Freer each singled twice.

The game was tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning when a lead off walk and four straight hits led to three Wallkill runs.

Brian Rusnack suffered the loss for New Paltz.

The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, a 6-1 loss to the Chester Hambletonians. Robert Berkeley led Chester with three hits and an RBI, while Andre Jenkins went the distance with 10 strikeouts. Robert Berkeley had 3 hits and an RBI.

The Panthers opened the week with a 10-0 win over the Saugerties Sawyers in five innings.

DeGroat struck out 14 batters in five innings for the win and had three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Wager singled twice and scored two runs. Brandon Vesely homered and drove in two runs. Sean Asendorf tripled, and Mandich had two hits and two runs scored.

Dalton Reynolds suffered the loss for the Sawyers.
