PB relay team is 10th at state meet

The final event of the New York State championship girls’ swim meet was the best for the Pine Bush Bushmen on Saturday at the Webster Aquatic Center.

The Bushmen’s team of Mackenzie Gula, Samantha McKee, Sadie DeGeorge and Katie Webster finished 10th with a time of 3:43.25.

The team clinched their berth in the championship heat with a time of 3:41.21. Even though it was three seconds off their best time, they gave themselves an opportunity. They entered Saturday 10 seconds behind Sacred Heart for the Federation championship and about seven seconds behind Hauppauge-Smithtown for the NYSPHSAA title.

The same four swimmers were 15th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.40. They had just missed qualifying for the championship A final when they finished 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:40.57.

Valley Central’s Cali White was 14th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.78, nearly a full second lower than her preliminary time, which saw her finished 21st.

White and Pine Bush’s Webster finished 16th and 19th in the 100-yard freestyle with respective times of 53.62 and 53.98. They both improved on their preliminary finishes, as they posted respective times of 53.68 and 53.90 for 17th and 20th place respectively. White’s time was almost exactly the same as her previous best In the event, but Webster was about a second slower.

Webster was 21st in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.52. It was better than her previous best of 24.69 the previous day at the preliminary swims. She also picked up a spot after finishing 22nd.

Valley Central’s Grace Satriano didn’t return for the second day of the meet, finishing 38th with a time of 25.48. Even though she didn’t make it back to the second day, Satriano improved on her seed time by 0.06 seconds.

Pine Bush’s 200-yard medley relay team of Alanah Giannini, Ella Humphrey, Ashley Martin and McKee finished 25th with a time of 1:55.39, slightly above their preliminary time, a jump of three spots from the previous days’ preliminary swim.

Pine Bush’s Gula finished 30th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.44, nearly a full second off her preliminary time of 59.54. She also dropped three spots after a 27th-place finish on Friday. She missed the championship cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.89, three seconds off her qualifying time. She finished 33rd overall.
