Pine Bush’s Tiffany Manikoth-Sooksavath had a strong first day but stumbled on the second as she finished fourth at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association girls’ tennis tournament on Thursday at MatchPoint Tennis in Goshen.
Manikoth-Sooksavath, the tournament’s No. 4 seed lost her semifinal match, 6-0, 6-2 to top-seeded Sasa Henesy of Middletown and then lost the third-place match to No. 2 Ally Davis of Washingtonville.
She will compete in this week’s Section 9 tournament as the OCIAA’s No. 4 seed and will open in the Round of 16 against Wallkill’s Arianna Jorge Martinez at Match Point.
Valley Central’s Audrey Maher, the tournament’s No. 8 seed, advanced to the Section 9 tournament when she reached the quarterfinals with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Warwick’s Bianka Grzesik. She was then eliminated from the tournament by top-seeded Sasha Henesy of Middletown, 6-1, 6-2.
Pine Bush’s Annelise Vitale advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6 win over Port Jervis’ Yara Shihada.
Pine Bush’s doubles team of Samantha Fiorentino and Heidi Pagan were eliminated in the second round by a 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 loss to Middletown’s Alexis Michael and Sandra Habwew, the tournament’s No. 5 seed.
Their teammates, Brinley Zamonsky and Rachael Price were eliminated by the tournament’s No. 4 seed, Joely Levin, and Leah Sheerin of Monroe-Woodbury, 6-1, 6-1. They opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over John S. Burke Catholic’s Cassidy Maglio and Nola English.
Middletown’s Alexis Michael and Sandra Habwe, the fifth seed, won the championship.
