Pine Bush girls crush Newburgh, 17-1

The Pine Bush girls’ lacrosse team lacrosse team responded quickly from a loss to neighboring Valley Central, taking the field on Thursday for a 17-1 victory over Newburgh at Pine Bush Elementary School.

Pine Bush jumped on the board quickly, getting their first goal nearly four minutes into the game. Over the next four minutes, Pine Bush had a 4-0 lead.

The Goldbacks got on the board with 16:01 remaining in the first half on a goal by Michelle Prado, off an assist from Mikayla Podlas.

However, Pine Bush went on another scoring flurry between the 13:28 mark and the 9:55 mark to take a 9-1 lead. Julia Conn’s goal with about 9 seconds left in the first half, set up a second half that had running clock.

Sam Budney led Pine Bush with three goals and three assists and Brigid Boyle had two goals and three assists. Ella Meberg had two goals and two assists and Sophia Licardi had two goals and one assist. Julia Corin had two goals and Grace Duffy had one. Antonia Licardi also had one goal. Amanda Watkins added three goals.

Mackenzie Brown had one goal and one assist.

A day earlier than their big win over Newburgh, Pine Bush dropped a 15-10 contest to Valley Central for only their second loss of the season.

Lorena Rivera led the Vikings with four goals and Mac Delmonico scored three goals. Rebecca Sibley added five goals. Brianna McPhillips, Kierra McPhillips and Gabriella Morelli had one each.

Sophia Licardi led Pine Bush with four goals and one assist. Grace Duffy had two goals and one assist. Brigid Boyle, Ella Meberg, Antonia Licardi and Julia Corin each had a goal. Sam Budney added two assists. Julia Corin added an assist.

It was only Pine Bush’s second loss of the season. They had previously been defeated by the Warwick Wildcats.
