Pine Bush school district to offer girls flag football

At its March 15 meeting, the Pine Bush school board approved a donation to help establish a girls flag football program.

The lengthy meeting was postponed from the previous evening due a snow storm and it combined business from the postponed February 28 meeting, also due to a snow storm.

The district will start a girls flag football program this spring. The New York Jets donated $3,075 for the program.

The board acknowledged the retirement of John Boyle after 20 years as principal of Crispell Middle School. Superintendent Brian Dunn gave some background on Boyle who attended Pine Bush schools. He noted that Boyle is a longtime volunteer of the Pine Bush Fire Department. In reflecting on Boyle’s service to the community, Dunn referred to him as “Mr. Pine Bush.”

Boyle thanked Dunn and the board for the recognition and thanked everyone for their support.

“I love our town,” Boyle said.

The board approved adding the position of speech pathologist for its Pre-K program. It also approved Translation Service for its English as a Second Language (ESL) program for the period March 1 to August 30.

The board approved change orders of more than $40,000 for its 2019 Capital Improvement Project, Phases II and III. The changes include carpentry; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; electrical; and general construction occurring in the high school, Circleville and Crispell middle schools, and E.J. Russell Elementary School.
