Area swim teams had their first meets last week, and the Pine Bush girls’ team picked up right where they left off the Fall 2019 season with two victories.

They opened their season on March 10 with a resounding 123-59 win over the Goshen Gladiators, and then returned to the pool two days later to defeat Valley Central 104-70.

Girls’ swimming – usually a Fall sport – was postponed to the March/April Fall 2 season in September when Section 9 postponed all four sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like their winter boys’ counterparts, all girls’ swim meets are conducted virtually. Each team swims at its home pool and the results are tabulated later.

Pine Bush defeated Valley Central picking up victories in seven of the 12 events.

Pine Bush won both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

They also got wins from Elishka Hajek (200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle), Mackenzie Gula (200-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly), and Antonia Licardi (50-yard freestyle).

The Vikings won the 400-yard freestyle relay and got individual victories from Abigail Malara (diving) and Rian Dickman (500-yard freestyle), Grace Wienckowski (100-yard backstroke) and Kaidyn Thompson (100-yard breaststroke).

The Vikings also suffered a 103-83 loss to Washingtonville on March 10.

The Wallkill Panthers competed only once so far, suffering a 129-52 loss to Middletown.
