Saint Andrew’s welcomes a new pastor

So happy to share good news with you! The Rev. Nicole R. Hanley has been called by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Walden and St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, Montgomery to be their Priest-in-Charge.

She was born in Syracuse, N. Y. and after college moved to the Bronx where she worked in publishing. She is a graduate of The Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary.

Rev. Hanley will be ordained into the priesthood on September 24 at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. Her first Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Walden on Sunday, September 25 at 10 a.m. All are invited to attend. Please extend a warm welcome to Rev. Hanley.

Rev. Hanley also sends word that St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and St. Francis of Assisi Chapel will host a Pet Blessing on October 2 at 2 p.m. on the lawn of St. Assisi Episcopal Chapel (74 Wallkill Avenue), Montgomery. Pets and their humans are invited to come for a blessing by The Rev. Hanley at 2 - 3 p.m. Treats for pets and their humans, as well as a certificate of blessing, will be provided. The Walden Humane Society and local animal supporters will also attend.

Family and friends send congratulations to Brian and Becky Maher on the birth of their son, Benjamin Willliam Maher, born at St. Anthony’s Community Hospital on September 2. Daughters Mia and Isla are ready for babysitting duties!.

Walden Rotary Club members send Happy Anniversary wishes to Ken and Diane Schliphack. They will celebrate their special day on September 24. They are wished all life’s best.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Saturday, October 1, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. All purchases benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. Walden’s Recreation and Parks Dept. and Walden Community Council will host a Walden Harvest Fest Kickoff Family Movie Night on Friday, September 23, 7:30 p.m. at Wooster Grove Memorial Park, 89 E. Don’t miss Walden’s 35th Annual Harvest Fest on September 24, 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Bradley Park You will find many vendors, live music, great food, Angry Orchard’s Garden, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Child ID, Blood Drive, Bounce houses, frog jumping contest, treasure chest and much more. They will also host the 2nd Annual Cutest Dog and Best Costume Contest.

Preregistration is recommended. Each winner will receive a trophy, a dog goodie bag and a gift card to Pet Smart to further spoil their furry friend. There will be multiple pet raffle baskets and a prize wheel with gift certificates from local businesses. Please also bring an item to donate - dog and cat food, litter, bleach detergent, paper towels, etc. for the Walden Humane Society.

Participants entering the Apple Pie Contest at the Walden Harvest Fest on September 24, should be reminded: One entry per person of 1 (one) whole 8” - 10” Apple Pie. Entries must be delivered to the concession stand at Bradley Park starting at 11:30 a.m. and no later than 12 p.m. Include a card with your first and last name and contact number with a copy of the recipe.

Jean Winum sends word that Catholic Conversations will meet on Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. in Father Sullivan Hall, downstairs from Most Precious Blood Church. Please mark your calendar to participate in the Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Franco’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant, 4 Oak Street on Tuesday, September 27, 5 - 9 p.m. Franco will donate 20% of your meal purchase to the Walden Historical Society. A required coupon is available on line and at the Josephine-Louise Public Library. Thank you in advance for participating.

The Walden Community Council will host a Fall window display contest for Village of Walden businesses. All Village of Walden businesses are invited to participate. Prizes will be awarded for the “Best Fall Theme” window indoor/outdoor display. Please have your windows or storefronts decorated by October 15. The displays will be judged the week of October 17.

Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:
The library will once again participate in New York State’s The Great Give Back on October 15, 2022. The Great Give Back provides opportunities for library patrons to participate in service-oriented projects. The library will be supporting the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and The Washbourne House. A flier listing the items needed may be found at the Main Circulation desk. Items will be collected during the months of September and October.
