Samuel Liebman was a resident of Walden, NY since 1971. The son of the late Raymond and Lillian Liebman, he was born on October 6, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, and died Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was 83. 

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years Carmen, and sons Jeffrey and Gilbert. Survivors include his son David, and his family Christie, Connor and Silvy; Carmen’s daughter Arlene of North Carolina, and her family, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Jayrlgne; his nieces Joanie and Madelyn. 

He was a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Architecture and was employed by several internationally known architectural firms prior to starting his architectural practice in New Paltz, NY in 1972 until his retirement in 2013. He has been cited for his achievements by the America Institute of Architects.

Sam served as past president of the Hudson Delaware Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Hudson Valley Council BSA Executive Board. In his forty-five years as a scouter he has been the recipient of many Council and National awards, including the Whitney Young Award for service to inner city youth.

He was an officer in the US Naval Air ASW Squadron VP831 having served on active duty in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the missile crisis in 1961 thru 1963. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 1308, Pine Bush, NY.

Sam was President of the Congregation Beth-Hillel, Walden Jewish Community Center for 15 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors since 1976. Sam was Chairman of the Walden Zoning Board of Appeals for 16 years and was Chairman of the Walden Master Plan Committee. He has been a member in good standing with the Wallkill Lodge Free and Accepted Masons since 1974.

Sam was so grateful for his long and wonderful friendships with his pals Connie, Billy and Fred.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586. Nava Herzog, Cantor of Congregation Beth Hillel, and Rev. Jim VanHouten will officiate.

Burial will follow at Beth Hillel Cemetery, Walden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sam’s name to Congregation Beth Hillel-Walden Jewish Community Center, 20 Pine St., Walden, NY 12586.
