Teen arrested after Pine Bush HS ‘shooter’ hoax

Last week Pine Bush High School went into lockdown after a false report was made to Orange County 911 about a shooter in the school.

Police forces swiftly found out that this call was made by a 14-year-old male/Pine Bush student from the Town of Wallkill on his friend’s cellphone. While there were no real threats to the school, this frightened many as Town of Crawford Police quickly took to social media to alert the public of an active incident.

The 14-year-old was apprehended on April 27 for Falsely Reporting an Incident to the third degree. After being issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket, he was released to his parent’s custody.

Following this, the Pine Bush Central School District thanked law enforcement for their diligence. “We would like to take this opportunity to again thank the responding law enforcement agencies for their swift and thorough response in order to provide for the safety and security of our staff and students during yesterday’s active shooter incident.”

On the day of the incident, Town of Crawford Police Chief Dominick Blasko made a statement saying they would have more of a presence in Pine Bush High School the next day.

“First and foremost, I would like to commend the students and staff that responded to this incident with the utmost urgency and seriousness. Their actions made our job easier. The response of our law enforcement partners was appreciated and shows the local and global commitment to protect our children,” stated Blasko.

Since the incident, Pine Bush School counselors have been available to students and will provide ongoing assistance.
