Town of Montgomery to switch meeting dates

Thursday nights at town hall has long been a staple in the Town of Montgomery, but that will soon change.
Beginning with the first meeting in 2023, the town board will now meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at 6:30 p.m.

Deputy Supervisor Ron Feller said the change was made because of the town hall schedule that was also approved at last week’s town board meeting. Town Hall hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m., but only from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Fridays. With Town Hall open only half a day on Fridays after a town meeting, it is often difficult to prepare legal notices for publication in time to meet Monday’s 3 p.m. deadline for the Wallkill Valley Times.

The solution, Feller said, was to have the meetings earlier in the week. Wednesdays were ruled out because the town attorney was not available. After checking with the villages of Walden and Montgomery (both of which meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month) the town board opted to hold their meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays.

The change goes into effect on Tuesday, January 10, which is also the town’s reorganization meeting for 2023. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m., prior to the regular town board meeting.
