Toys for Tots Train to return on December 11

I’m happy to be reporting on so many holiday happenings. We all need this so much.

Holiday Boutique at the Orange County Arboretum has returned. It will be held on Friday Dec. 3  and Friday Dec. 10, 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday Dec. 4 and Saturday Dec. 11  12 to 8 p.m. Masks are required.  No cash! Credit or debit cards only.

The 13th annual Holiday Lights in Bloom at the Orange County Arboretum is in full swing. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday  from 5 to 8 pm but be sure to arrive no later than 7:30 p.m. November 26 to Dec. 26 but it is closed on Dec. 24 and 25. No buses or groups of 10 or more people allowed.

The Montgomery Fire Dept. is having their fresh cut Tree and Wreath Sale. Stop by and see their huge selection and one of the volunteers will gladly help you get it ready for the trip home.
Please support them in their annual fundraiser.

The Montgomery Senior Center would like to offer its thanks and appreciation to the Orange County Office for the Aging, as well as the numerous volunteers who stepped forward for what was a wonderful, full house Veterans’ Appreciation Luncheon on November 17 at the Center.   They would like to also offer a special word of gratitude  to this year’s sponsors and donors, who without their financial support, the luncheon would not have been possible.

They included: the Walden Savings Bank, the St. Pat’s Ramble Committee, Town of Montgomery Supervisor Brian Maher, Montgomery Shoprite, Walden Hanaford, Staples of Middletown, Homestyle Catering, the Bruderhof Community, Secret Garden Florist and the Girl Scout “Operation Cookie Drop”.  As noted  by MC Pat Kelleher,  “What our Veterans have experienced, including many of you, over multiple generations is unimaginable, but must be remembered and spoken about if we are to understand, and value the price of peace, yesterday, now and tomorrow”.

The Senior Center is very grateful for the outpouring of community support and patriotism which made for a fitting tribute to our local Veterans.

The Montgomery Senior Center is pleased to announce that they will be holding a catered ‘Happy Holiday Lunch’ on Thursday, December 30, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Center.  Cost is $10 per person, please call 845-457-9367 or stop in (36 Bridge St., Village of Montgomery) to sign up and select your lunch entree on or before December 23rd.

Calling all Bingo players.  Bingo is held the first Monday of every month at 11 a.m. at the Montgomery Senior Center. Charge is nominal and prizes are numerous. Your next chance to play is December 6, arrive early to pick your favorite seat ! And bring your lucky charms and troll dolls and 4 leaf clovers.

It’s a Girl Thing is launching its first fundraiser, “It takes a Village”. On  Saturday, Dec. 4 from 12 to 4 p.m. there will be the Gingerbread Village Display and voting, open to all. There is a  $2 suggested donation admission. Children can decorate their own Gingerbread man cookie for $2.  Enjoy holiday entertainment, refreshments, enter to win a tricky tray raffle to kick off the holiday season. The Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Train will stop in the Village of Montgomery on Saturday Dec. 11 on Railroad Ave. at 3 p.m. Residents are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate. The train and caboose will be in Montgomery for approximately 90 minutes and the “big guy” is also scheduled to make an appearance.

Also on December 11 celebrate the Old Fashioned Holiday in the village with an outdoor street fair on Clinton St., a tree lighting at 5 p.m. in front of the village hall,  holiday music,  refreshments, a live Nativity, book sale at the Library, Wagon Rides and Santa arrives on a firetruck for his visit and pictures at the bandstand, and a morning 4 mile Santa’s Toy Trot and kids fun run.

I just returned from the Village of Montgomery where residents were holding on tight to their holiday roping and inflatables in the cold blustery wind getting ready for the annual House Decorating Contest. Judging in several categories, 3 winners in each category,  will take place on Sunday Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Please make sure your house numbers are visible for the judges to be able to see.

Be sure to get rid of those pesky leaves before the slow falls. The Town of Montgomery residents may drop off BAGGED leaves until December 11 at Taylor Montgomery Recycling at 350 Neelytown Rd. Montgomery . It is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 12 noon. Town of Montgomery residents must show proof of residency.
