Valley Central drops cross country opener

Ava Carsley won the overall race, but the Valley Central girls’ country team lost its season-opening meet 23-35 to the Washingtonville Wizards on September 6.

Carsley finished with a time of 20:34.91, and Laura Griffin finished fourth in 22:51.9 with Sydney Remenar and Sophie Carsley rounding out the top 10 for Valley Central. Grace Burns and Maeve Eagan finished 15th and 16th respectively for the Vikings, while Kelsey Burke finished 19th.

Washingtonville’s Jason Ariano won the boys’ race in a time of 18:02.28, as the Wizards defeated the Vikings, 23-50.

Valley Central’s Jacob Sahlstrom finished second in 18:14.56, with his younger brother, Caleb, right behind him to take third in 18:15.25. Brian Quinn was 12th and Rocky Reavey finished 14th. Isaiah Tejada, Dan Weikel and Jack Dudzi finished 19th, 24th and 28th respectively.
