Vikings girls split with Newburgh, Goshen

The Valley Central softball team split a series with the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks on May 9 and 10.

The Vikings earned the split when they beat the Goldbacks, 15-0, in 5 innings on May 10, behind Bella Mayo’s one-hitter. Autumn Strobach had three singles and three runs scored and Lauren Serrao had four singles and drove in seven runs. Emilia Brundage singled twice, doubled and scored three runs. Audrey Conklin singled and doubled and Alyssa Bonilla hit a home run.

Allison Miller singled for the Goldbacks.

The win avenged the Vikings’ loss the previous day on a walk-off double by Maddie Gravel, who doubled twice in the game off the Vikings’ Talia Wutz.

Brundage doubled and homered in the first inning. She scored two runs. Bonilla singled had two doubles, scored two runs and drove in two.

The Vikings trailed 6-2 and had two outs and nobody on in the top of the seventh before scoring four runs off Newburgh’s Alina Ferguson. Bonilla doubled home the tying run.

Newburgh’s Allison Miller singled twice and scored a run. Melissa Schulze had two singles and an RBI.
The Vikings lost to the Middletown Middies, 10-7 on Wednesday, and rebounded to defeat New Paltz, 7-1, on Thursday. The result from Friday’s game against Pine Bush was not available.

The Vikings split a doubleheader with the Goshen Gladiators on Saturday.

The Vikings lost the first game, 6-1, and won the second game, 5-1.
