The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance will hold its 8th Annual Wallkill River Summit at 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the College Terrace at SUNY New Paltz. The Summit will feature speakers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District, Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies and the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance covering topics ranging from regulatory clean water planning, active agricultural projects, harmful algal blooms and ways to get involved.

The Alliance’s annual Summit brings together municipalities, community members, elected officials and agencies who are studying or interested in the Wallkill River. Registration is free, though due to space limitations, pre-registration is required. Light refreshments will be provided. To register for the Summit, visit tinyurl.com/wallkillriver.

The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance will provide an update on the groups’ efforts to steward the river, and ways community members can join their efforts.

Jillian Decker, Chair of the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance, says, “Alliance members are excited to be holding the Summit in-person again this year and we look forward to seeing familiar faces, potentially meeting new members, and discussing next steps for the Wallkill.”

“We are encouraged that the DEC has responded favorably to our community organizing on behalf of the Wallkill River, by initiating a TMDL for phosphorus.“ said Martha Cheo, Wallkill River Watershed Alliance Board Member.
