Warwick walkoff ends PB season

The Pine Bush Major softball team was three outs from winning the District 19 championship.

It was, however, not to be.

Pine Bush entered the fifth inning with a 5-2 lead, but Warwick scored six runs in the last two innings and Cam Moore drilled a two-run walkoff single up the middle giving her team an 8-7 win and the District 19 Major softball championship on June 27.

The loss denied the Pine Bush Majors their second straight District 19 championship, and it also denied a second straight title to the several players who were on last year’s District 19 championship Minors softball team.

It also was Pine Bush’s second loss to Warwick in three games.

Pine Bush had come to within a win of taking the Bracket B championship but a 4-2 loss to Warwick sent them to the elimination match.

Since then, Pine Bush had won three straight games to set up a June 26 rematch with Warwick, a game Pine Bush won, 16-6, to force the June 27 decisive title game.

Pine Bush had a strong start scoring all seven of its runs in the first three innings, taking a 3-0 lead on a fielder’s choice and RBI singles by Emily Muro and Ariana Nunes.

However, Warwick answered with two runs against Pine Bush pitcher Courtney Flynn in the bottom of the first on Moore’s RBI double and an RBI single by Erin Persico.

Pine Bush tacked on two runs each in the second and third innings.

Lila Hanson and Silvana Zamonsky both reached base and came around to score on Warwick errors. Danicka Perrone delivered a two-run single in the third, giving Pine Bush a 7-2 lead.

Flynn kept Warwick off the board until she ran into some trouble in the fifth inning.

Moore broke Warwick’s scoring drought with an RBI single and Persico followed with a two-run double and scored on a wild pitch. Sydney Introini walked to put the tying run on base, but she was stranded on third base when the inning ended.

Flynn got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the sixth after Pine Bush stranded Zamonsky on third base.

Warwick’s Hayes Pizanie singled and Julia Roome doubled to start the inning. After Amanda Lawson lined out, Moore ended the game and Pine Bush’s tournament run.
