On September 9, a man claimed to have a gun and robbed the Walden Savings Bank located on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Town of Newburgh Police and other Law Enforcement agencies searched the area for hours, but the man was not located. Town of Newburgh Police continued the investigation, with the assistance of Law Enforcement agencies within New York and surrounding states.

With the assistance and cooperation of all the agencies involved, on September 22, 2023, Town of Newburgh Police arrested Sunil Kumar, 46 years old from Wantagh, NJ. Kumar was charged with Robbery 3rd, processed and as per NYS Bail Reform, released on an appearance ticket.

In the apprehension, Town of Newburgh Police were assisted by Sussex County Prosecutors Office, New Jersey State Police, FBI North Jersey Violent Crime Task Force, New York State Police, Orange County Investigators Office, Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
