Bagel Hour returns to Saint Francis Church

Posted

Greetings from River City. It’s no secret that millions of us are financially strapped and are having to cut back on most things, especially outings, however, the Newburgh City Council seems to have found a way to get around that problem by taking a jaunt to a luxury hotel and spa for a couple of days for workshops, team building and all that stuff that helps them to do a better job.

Oh, I know…you’re probably thinking that those thousands could have been spent to fix a street of pay for police, or for any number of things. Seems that thought didn’t occur to the Council.

Mount Saint Mary College will present “Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Its History and Place in the Spiritual Life,” the inaugural talk in the series “Lectures in Applied Theology in Honor of Sr. Peggy Murphy,” on Thursday, March 21 at 4 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on campus in Whittaker Hall. Mount Saint Mary College is located at 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh.

Two poems by Newburgh Poet Laureate Genie Abrams received Honorable Mentions in a nationwide poetry contest sponsored by National Public Radio station WOMR on Cape Cod last month.

The judge was poet and novelist Marge Piercy, who lives in Wellfleet, Mass. It is notable that of the eight poems given Honorable Mentions in the contest, two of them were by Abrams.

Congratulations, Genie!

St. Francis Church’s Little Furry Ministry would like to recognize The Mid-Hudson Animal Aid and The Animal Rescue Foundation both at 54 Simmons Lane in Beacon.  These two shelters were there to help some of our parishioners’ pet needs without hesitation. Because of this kind helpfulness seen firsthand, we wanted to “give back”.

So, this time, our donations went to both of these shelters. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate bags and bags of pet food, and supplies AND $400 to each of these two wonderful organizations.

If you know of a local animal shelter that has helped you with your own or a friend’s animals’ needs, please drop a note in our “feed a good cause” box and let us know. We would like to recognize them with our next “donation run”.
