In loving memory of Bernard E. McCullom (Ben), a lifelong Newburgh resident, entered  into rest on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was 96.

Son of the late Hugh and Mary V. (Gray) McCullom, he was born on August 6, 1926, in Newburgh.

Ben was a Navy veteran, he proudly served during WWII in the European Theater of operations and was thrilled to render his grandson’s first salute at his ROTC commissioning and to go on an Honor Flight to the Nation’s Capital in 2014. 

Ben was a retired General Manager with the former Wayne Oldsmobile-Cadillac, Inc., in Newburgh and had managed Bard Chevrolet and Lanthier Pontiac. His extensive knowledge and dedication to the automotive industry was evident to all who knew him. Ben's love for cars and motorcycles was infectious, and he had a knack for captivating others with his stories and insights. With his larger-than-life personality he effortlessly commanded attention wherever he went. He had a magnetic presence and a genuine zest for life. Born and raised in Newburgh, Ben had a remarkable journey filled with accomplishments and diverse interests. Throughout his life, he embraced fitness and developed a deep affection for skiing and hiking, finding solace and joy in nature's embrace. Ben had a profound love for animals, especially his dogs. He could often be seen walking them around town, embodying his warmth and compassion.

Ben cherished his children and grandson, taking immense pride in their accomplishments and finding great joy in their successes, he is survived by two sons, Bernard J. (Toni) McCullom of Chestnut Ridge, NY, and Shaun McCullom of Ashville, NC; a daughter, Patricia Myers of Jupiter, FL; one grandson, Shaun Myers, of Orlando, FL.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Dan and Hugh McCullom: a sister, Patricia Scully and his wife, Mary (Laratonda) McCullom.

Ben was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 16, 2023, 11 am at Sacred Heart Church, 25 Robinson Avenue, Newburgh.

As we mourn the loss of Ben, let’s celebrate the extraordinary life he lived, the lasting impact he made, and the love he shared. May his memory serve as a reminder to embrace life's adventures and cherish our loved ones.
