City of Newburgh and the parking meters

Posted

In response and support for Christine Bello’s letter published in the September 7 edition of the Mid Hudson Times: I think Ms. Bello makes many good points in her letter. I would like to add an “Annual Resident Parking Tag” for those who don’t live on a metered street but often do business on them. When the meter kiosks were installed, I went to City Hall and purchased a debit card for the use in the kiosks. Most of the time it doesn’t work. I have a running joke with the security guard and tax office employees at City Hall .... “How Many Tries Did It Take This Time?”

Recently while trying to pick up work from the Tailor Shoppe on Liberty Street, an employee of Code Compliance tried to help me and after several tries finally got the Kiosk to accept the card and issue the stub.

I now dread going to City Hall, the Tailor Shoppe on Liberty Street or any of the other shops out of frustration with the Meter Kiosks. I would love to try a few of the restaurants on Liberty Street and lower Broadway, but the thought of fighting the Kiosks stops me. I would pay an annual reasonable price for a hang tag to avoid the meter kiosks. I’m old. I don’t mind paying for parking. I still have quarters in the car, but they do me no good unless I’m eating in New Paltz.
